London on Board-If you are in the big smoke it looks like a worthwhile visit. London on Board. You can find details on: http://www.londononboard.com/.

About London on Board

London on Board is a board game club that meets a couple of times a week in central London to play board and card games.

We’re a mixed bag of game players. Some of us have been playing board games for aaaaaages, some of us have only just begun to discover the wealth of board games out there. Some of us prefer Euros, others are more interested in the American style, dripping with theme board games. Some of us like abstracts. Some of us just like everything. All of us like to play games and just having a good time. We live all over London have been gathering players from all over Europe and beyond! They seem to meet 3 0r 4 times a week.

Galaxy Trucker. From Boardgamegeek and from our club players who agree:  ”In a galaxy far, far away… they need sewer systems, too. Corporation Incorporated builds them. Everyone knows their drivers — the brave men and women who fear no danger and would, if the pay was good enough, even fly through Hell.

Now you can join them. You will gain access to prefabricated spaceship components cleverly made from sewer pipes. Can you build a space ship durable enough to weather storms of meteors? Armed enough to defend against pirates? Big enough to carry a large crew and valuable cargo? Fast enough to get there first?

Of course you can. Become a Galaxy Trucker. It’s loads of fun”

We had two games in play. It seems to be a popular games system. We had better get some games board painted blue/black.

Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game is a tactical ship-to-ship combat game in which players take control of powerful Rebel X-wings and nimble Imperial TIE fighters, facing them against each other in fast-paced space combat. Featuring stunningly detailed and painted miniatures, the X-Wing Miniatures Game recreates exciting Star Wars space combat throughout its several included scenarios. Select your crew, plan your maneuvers, and complete your mission! Watch the video tutorial here.

Joseph McGivern at the Headingley Games wants to organise group of gamers who would be interested in a Slow running Inquisitor Campaign. Played in the standard Heroic 28mm scale?

Set in the 41st millennium Inquisitor is a narrative wargame that allows you to play the part of a bold hero or cruel villain battling in the dark and forgotten shadows of the galaxy. An Inquisitor is answerable to no one, save the Emperor himself, and their only remit is to protect Mankind at all costs. For an Inquisitor, the end always justifies the means, for they alone can truly begin to comprehend the threats to Mankind’s existence. It is this ultimate responsibility, and the differing methods around it, that often sees Inquisitors working against each other. The Inquisitor game centres on this conflict – the battle for the Emperor’s soul. Inquisitor is quite unlike any game you may have played previously.

It’s an Old (2005) Games workshop game that focused as the name suggested on Inquisitors and a few favored Retainers. The Game concentrated on narrative game play over competitive contest. Coming close to bridging the gap between a Role Play and something like Necromunda. Come along Thursday for a game.

Heroclix-the collectable miniature game by Wizkids. Heroclix was up for playing at the Headingley Games Club last Thursday. Lots of Heroes fuigures moving around the board bashing things. HeroClix is a collectible miniatures game that uses the Clix system that centers around the world of superhero comic books, especially the Marvel and DC Comics universes. Players construct teams of comic book heroes, villains, or characters from various video games series such as Street Fighter, Gears of War, and Halo and engage in a turn-by-turn battle on grid maps based on various storyline locations. The Hulk, Spiderman, iron man, green goblin, Mr Hyde, a huge Fondness for Batroc, a horrendous French stereotype with a fancy mustache called ze Leaper are some of the chosen few out on the board. It looks like it’s up for repeat games on future Thurdays.

The return of Bloodbowl

Blood Bowl is a Fantasy Football game created by Jervis Johnson for the British games company Games Workshop (but now under the aegis of their Specialist Games division) as a parody of American Football.[1] The game was first released in 1987 and has been re-released in new editions since. Blood Bowl is set in an alternate version of the Warhammer Fantasy setting, populated by traditional fantasy elements such as human warriors, goblins, dwarves, elves, orcs and trolls. I don’t know who posted this up on Wikipedia but two players had a game last week. A revival as it has often been played at the Headingley Games Club.

Game of Thrones: The Boardgame. This was played by 6 players at the club recently . They seemed to enjoy it.

Game description from the publisher: King Robert Baratheon is dead, and the lands of Westeros brace for battle. In the second edition of A Game of Thrones: The Board Game, three to six players take on the roles of the great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, as they vie for control of the Iron Throne through the use of diplomacy and warfare. Based on the best-selling A Song of Ice and Fire series of fantasy novels by George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones is an epic board game in which it will take more than military might to win. Will you take power through force, use honeyed words to coerce your way onto the throne, or rally the townsfolk to your side? Through strategic planning, masterful diplomacy, and clever card play, spread your influence over Westeros! More of the game system can be found here

Players must buy the favor of the gods in their race to be the first player to build two cities in the Ancient Greek island group known as the Cyclades. Our group at the club liked it.

Victory requires respect for all the gods – players cannot afford to sacrifice to only one god, but must pay homage to each of five gods in turn. Each turn, the players bid for the favors of the gods, as only one player can have the favor of each god per turn – and each player is also limited to the favor of a single god per turn.

  • Ares allows the movement of player armies and the building of Fortresses.
  • Poseidon allows players to move their navies and build Ports.
  • Zeus allows his followers to hire priests and build temples.
  • Athena provides her worshipers with philosophers and universities.
  • Apollo increases the income of his worshipers.100_2943
