Catan-Ancient Egypt-A suprisingly good variant. We gave it it a go.

Catan-Ancient Egypt brings The Settlers of Catan to a new location and time, with players now living in the time of the Pharaohs and using their ox carts to move resources to build small villages and great temples styled after some of the most interesting buildings of Egyptian antiquity. As always, you must beware of the robber! His chariot can interrupt production at your cattle pastures, papyrus groves and quarries. You will need boats to cross the Nile and instead of roads you get bullock carts.

After you master the base game, you can try these variants:

  • H: Ten god cards are now available to player, with their powers adding a variety of options for dynamic gameplay.
  • T: Players can now build and move papyrus boats across the Nile to compete for the pharaoh’s blessing and the vizier’s favor by building blocks onto the great pyramid

The help from Gods cards set a new aspect which can give you an edge. We liked these. The Great Pyramid gives one extra victory points and other extras. It was a tight game. We recommend it.

London on Board-If you are in the big smoke it looks like a worthwhile visit

London on Board-If you are in the big smoke it looks like a worthwhile visit. London on Board. You can find details on: http://www.londononboard.com/.

About London on Board

London on Board is a board game club that meets a couple of times a week in central London to play board and card games.

We’re a mixed bag of game players. Some of us have been playing board games for aaaaaages, some of us have only just begun to discover the wealth of board games out there. Some of us prefer Euros, others are more interested in the American style, dripping with theme board games. Some of us like abstracts. Some of us just like everything. All of us like to play games and just having a good time. We live all over London have been gathering players from all over Europe and beyond! They seem to meet 3 0r 4 times a week.

Settlers of Catan by Mayfair Games is back

On Thursday the old favourite Settlers of Catan was out of the cupboard, Settlers of Catan is on the top world-beating eurogames. We have some expert players and if you want to join in expect tough competition. But you can always play one strong opponent against the other. There many variants and add ons. For a review of the game see Boardgamegeek which says: “In Settlers of Catan, players try to be the dominant force on the island of Catan by building settlements, cities, and roads. On each turn dice are rolled to determine what resources the island produces. Players collect these resources to build up their civilizations to get to 10 victory points and win the game. Multi-award-winning and one of the most popular games in recent history due to its amazing ability to appeal to non-gamers and gamers alike.”

Settlers of Catan Cities and Knights by Mayfair Games

We played Settlers of Catan Cities and Knights.  One of our favourite variant of Settlers of Catan. We have some expert players and if you want to join in expect tough competition. But you can always play one strong opponent against the other. For a review of the game see Boardgamegeek. The use of city development and commodity cards opens the way for much more in our favourite variant. A cracking game of a 4 player Cities and Knights Settlers of Catan last week. There was a last minute rush to the wire at the end. One of the club’s favourite games which is played often. It’s good to have new experienced players along to give it a new aspect. This one was tougher than usual. The winner got there by building upgraded knights quickly and getting 3 VPs plus 6 for cities a merchant and 2 for a 5 resource city. others were close on behind.
